Focal on bPríomhoide

“Ar an gcéad lá de Mheán Fómhair, 2006 d’oscail Gaelscoil na Lochanna na doirse don chéad uair do pháistí na háite, scoil lán-Ghaelach agus idirchreideamhach. Tá sé i gceist againn ar fad rud speisialta a bhunú anseo . . . scoil atá níos mó ná scoil, . . . saol ina bheidh sonas bhur bpáistí mar an bun cloch, agus an Ghaeilge mar an
chroí-lár”.

Stair na Scoile / History of the School

I 2004, tháinig grúpa tuismitheoirí le chéile chun coiste bunaithe na scoile a bhunú. Tar éis dhá bhliain de dhianobair bunaíodh Gaelscoil na Lochanna agus d’oscail an scoil na doirse don chéad uair ar an 1ú Meán Fómhair 2006. Bhí 20 dalta cláraithe ar scoil ar an gcéad lá.

In 2004, a group of parents came together to form the founding committee of the school. After 2 years of hard work, Gaelscoil Na Lochanna was founded. We opened our doors for the first time on the 1st September 2006. 20 pupils enrolled. The rest as they say, is history.

Our dual ethos

An Ghaeilge

Is í an Ghaeilge teanga chumarsáide na scoile. Labhair linn as Gaeilge.
Cuirfimid béim áirithe freisin ar rudaí Ghaelacha a chur ar siúl sa scoil, idir ceol, spórt agus cultúr.

Irish is the language of communication of the school. We encourage the teachers, students and parents, the inspector and the Board of Management to speak in Irish. We encourage you to use the Irish that you know when you meet with us.
We put an emphasis too on all things Irish i.e. Sports, Culture, Music.

Idircreidmheach / Interdenominational

Tá sainmheoin idirchreidmheach ag Gaelscoil Na Lochanna. Bíonn an reiligiún Caitliceach agus Eaglais na hÉireann á múineadh againn le linn am scoile. Is ghnách don reachtaire agus don sagart cuairt a thabhairt ar an scoil. Réiteofar na páistí do na sacraimintí le linn am scoile.

Our school is an inter-denominational school. Both Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland faiths are taught during school time. It is usual for both the Rector and the Priest to visit the school. Children are prepared for the sacraments during school hours.

Clárú / Enrolment

Parents wishing to enrol their children can fill out a pre-enrolment form (available from the school office). This puts the child on the school’s waiting list. In January of the relevant year, prospective parents are invited to attend an enrolment meeting. Further information meetings and an open day for new children are held in May / June.

8.45 a.m.    Osclaíonn an scoil / School opens

The subjects taught are: Gaeilge, Béarla, Matamaitic, Stair, Tíreolas, Eolaíocht, (OSIE), Oideachas Ealaíona (Amharc Ealaíona, Ceol, Drámaíocht) Teagasc Chríostaí, Corpoideachais, OSPS.

From the beginning, all subjects are taught through Irish, expect for the language of English.

Lón Sláintiúil / Healthy Lunch Campaign

We operate a healthy lunch campaign in the school.

Ár Scoil Glan / Our Clean School

Children take home their rubbish.

An Fhoireann / Staff

Seán Ó Cearnaigh is the Príomhoide. Múinteoir Amy and Múinteoir Ethna teach the other classes. Múinteoir Jacqueline is our Part-Time Learning Support teacher. Fíona Stack is our rúnaí (secretary) and Betty Boylan is our part-time cleaner.

Obair Bhaile / Homework

Tugtar obair bhaile do dhaltaí i rith na seachtaine agus ní ag an deireadh seachtaine.

Homework is given to pupils on week nights and not at the weekend. Helping children with their homework can help parents to pick up some Irish and is time well spent.

Bainistíocht / Management

“Ag gach léibheil den saol scoile, oibríonn gach duine go dian agus go dícheallach ar mhaithe leis an scoil agus cruthaíonn sé seo comhspioraid láidir eadrainn.”

At every level, we all work so hard to make this school what it is and we conduct the whole running of the school in a spirit of togetherness.

Patrún na Scoile / School Patron

Is é Fóras Patrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán – Ghaeilge Teo. patrún na scoile seo.

The patron of our school is the Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna lán Gaeilge.

An Bord Bainistíochta / Board of Management

Tá ochtar ar an mBord Bainistíochta.

There are eight members on the board. The Board of Management is responsible for the running of the school and the Principal is responsible for the day-to-day management.

Coiste na dtuismitheoirí / Parents’ Council

Tacaíonn coiste na dtuistí le obair na scoile. Bíonn cruinniú acu go rialta. Bíonn an coiste ag tabhairt cabhrach agus tacaíochta don scoil trí eolas a roinnt ar thuismitheoiri, ciste a bhailiú, cabhair a thabhairt ag ócáidí scoile srl.

This committee helps with the work of the school. They hold regular meetings throughout the year. They help by circulating information, fundraising, helping at school events etc.

All our policies and developments in the school are posted on our school website. www.gaelscoilnalochanna.com

Cóiríocht / Accommodation

At present, we lease our site from the County Wicklow VEC. We have been very happy here and are very grateful to the VEC for allowing us to have such a terrific start to our school life. The Board of Management under the guidance of our Patron and with assistance from the Department of Education and Science is constantly working on the question of a future and permanent site for our school.
